A deafening roar exploded from the fan zones in downtown Vancouver Friday night as the final buzzer sounded, signalling the Canucks' third win in the Stanley Cup final.

Ecstatic fans poured out of Rogers Arena in a sea of blue Canucks sweaters, joining tens of thousands that had gathered in the zones, where the huge crowd watched the game on three giant video screens.

Unlike the games Monday and Wednesday -- both losses, which saw shocked supporters leave the downtown area quickly and quietly -- they stuck around to whoop it up Friday and savour the tightly fought 1-0 victory together.

The win boosted the home team to a 3-2 lead in the best-of-seven series

I was downtown after Friday's game and this photo doesn't do the scene justice. It was just crazy, but in an orderly fashion. The energy in the air's even higher than it was during the Olympics last year. This city wants the Cup this year and most think we have the team to do it. I honestly think that whatever team was lucky enough to have the most home games will win the series. EA Sports has it right in that each team will win their own home games. Vancouver in 7.

It wasn't just the downtown, it was the entire Greater Vancouver Area, referred to locally as the Lower Mainland. There's numerous Live Venues across the region setup with Jumbo-trons and each location attracts hundreds, if not thousands of spectators. Vancouver's also the only team to open up the the home arena (Rogers Arena) for fans during away games. $10 a pop and all of the cash goes to charity. As you can imagine, it's packed too during the games in Boston. The fans love it, the city loves it, and many are even confident that the Canucks will take it in Boston after getting back into their President's Trophy winning groove during Game 5.

Incidentally, 76% of all Stanley Cup Finals Game 5 winning teams have went on to win the Cup and many feel Vancouver won't break that trend. Look, Boston's waited 39 years to be on the verge of winning the Stanley Cup and they'll likely have to wait one more. Wait a second, the Canucks have the potential, with it's current core group, to become a hockey dynasty, so maybe the Bruins will have to wait a couple more years.

Da Bruins will hammer the Canucks in Beantown on Monday, then Chara will knock out the Sedin sisters and the rest of the sissy west coast gang on Wednesday. Ya heard it here first! Go Bruins!!!!

I'm thinking that the Canucks will play their A game tomorrow (and Wednesday if necessary) and beat the Boston Bullies. Even NHL officials and many pundits agree that the Western Conference is superior to the Eastern when it comes to talent. Pekka Rinne was every bit as good as Tim Thomas and Vancouver beat'em. San Jose was rated a better team than Boston and they proved as much with their victory over the Detroit Bruisers, umm, I mean Redwings. Vancouver has nothing to prove and even their decisive losses in Games 3 & 4 only prove even the best can have bad days or even meltdowns. Chicago also beat them down over a couple games in the quarter-finals, then loss the series to the better team. It's simple math, really. Just ask EA Sports. They've crunched all the numbers and were only wrong in one instance with respect to these playoffs when they predicted Detroit to win over San Jose. Otherwise, they're on the money with their picks - every year - and they've picked Vancouver over Beantown in 7. I think 6 in Boston is feasible at this point. Even thought I'd love to have them take it in Vancouver, a Boston victory would even be better. To win it in hostile territory and then skate around and rub it in for an hour afterward as they accept the franchise's first and most deservedly Stanley Cup Championship.

Look for the Canucks to take it at home on, Game 7.

Canuckleheads ! Although if they bring it home, the rest of Canada will never hear the end of it.

(just my two cents worth, adjusted for Yankee dollars, well what do you know, it's still two cents.)

Go BRUINS ! I think it has been one of the best Stanley Cup series of all time. I believe the healthiest team will win. Some of those guys have to be hurting? What a series...GO BRUINS.

Why was Dr, Reid's comment swiped?

Bruins will win at home, they've been completely dominant in Boston. The problem is they haven't been able to win in Vancouver. I think it is more likely that Boston can take game seven than Vancouver taking game 6, but look for the B's to lose by a goal in Vancouver if they can't get over that hump.

Baron von Steuben pretty well summed it up.

Da Bruins will likely win a tight game tonight, say 4-3 in regulation. Power plays will be a big factor; the Canucks will make the most of their chances and Da Bruins will continue to fire blanks, with the only benefit being that they at least kill minutes on the clock. The rookie Seguin has to step up, Chara's gotta wake up and Lucic's gotta stop dragging ass. McQuad looks like a disaster waiting to happen and Kaberle doesn't seem to know if he's coming or going. Despite all these weaknesses, Da Bruins may well pull it all off in Vancouver on Wed.

I hope this series goes seven! It has been excellent so far. Drama, hard hits, goal tenders standing on their heads making saves, skill players making "WTF was that" moves - what else could you ask for? This has been wicked awesome kid!

I would like to see it go seven. Both teams are due to hoist the cup.

It would be more fun if Boston wins it. Toronto would be the only original 6 team not to win in the last fourty years (you know when they wore black and white (TVs) uniforms.
